23 (Plus 5!) Fundraising Websites and Blogs Every Fundraiser Should Read

I am often asked by my colleagues, clients and total strangers which blogs I like to read and so I thought I would put together a list of my favourite blogs along with links to their sites. My preference is for blogs that provide good content, comic relief and tips and tricks that I can implement right away.

If you are looking for blogs on cause marketing and sponsorship, you won’t find them on this list! What you will find, however, are some of the sharpest minds in the sector sharing principles that can be applied to every type of fundraising.

  • Chris, I’m honored to have my blog included on your list. By compiling your list, you are providing a terrific service to fundraising professionals. With so much information available on the Internet, it’s hard to know where to find truly worthwhile tips and/or inspiration. Your list is a good place for folks start.

There are a number of other blogs that I read regularly that did not make your list. Here are just two:

Clairification (http://www.clairification.com/). Claire Axelrad, JD, CFRE provides practical tips that can help any nonprofit organization. She also fearlessly tackles some of the tough issues faced by fundraisers. In addition to her blog posts, she offers a variety of e-books that take a deeper look into various subjects.

Hands on Fundraising (http://mcahalane.com/blog/). Mary Cahalane is someone who provides solid, practical tips from a donor-centered perspective. In addition to addressing fundraising issues, she also understands the importance of robust stewardship.

As I’ve said, these are just two of the additional blogs I regularly read. I’m a huge fan of some others as well. But, at least for now, I’ll stop here since I don’t want to be overwhelming.

    Thanks again!

  • I’m back with another website recommendation. This one is not exactly a blogsite. I’m not sure how you would describe it. It’s part blog, part news, part library, part museum. I’m referring to the site for SOFII (Showcase of Fundraising Innovation & Inspiration — http://sofii.org/). This site contains volumes of case studies with actual examples tested in the real world. It’s a great resource for anyone involved in fundraising regardless of experience level.

  • Thanks Michael and Chris. I read most of these blogs (including Mary Cahalane), but you’ve helped me to discover a few new ones. I would be honored to be included in your next list.

And if you’re looking for one with content plus good comic relief, look no further than Wild Woman Fundraising http://wildwomanfundraising.com/ by the inimitable Mazarine Treyz. She is also fearless and can be counted on to give not just practical tips but also food for thought.

    • Thanks so much for your comment Claire! I really appreciate it!

If you want to learn about stewardship, major gifts and so much more, read the Clairification.com blog, because Claire is a talented (and funny!) writer!

      🙂 Mazarine
